Godot Code Studio
A VS Code-style revamp of the Godot script editor — a full coding environment as a GDExtension, inside the editor you already have open.

The flagship. Godot Code Studio is a VS Code-style revamp of the built-in script editor, shipped as a GDExtension — essentially VS Code inside the Godot editor.
Godot’s default script editor is fine for small scripts. For real projects, you end up splitting time between Godot and an external IDE — losing focus, syncing windows, re-finding context. GCS closes that gap without leaving the engine.
What it brings into the editor
- Proper tabs, splits and layouts — edit scripts, shaders and resources side by side
- A real command palette — every action in the editor reachable from the keyboard
- Advanced navigation — go-to-definition, symbol search, breadcrumbs, recent files
- Modern editing UX — multi-cursor editing, better search & replace across files
- Extensible — built to be customized, not just used
Why a GDExtension?
Because it runs inside your existing Godot editor, with your scenes, your debugger and your running game. No sync plugins, no second window, no exported-symbol juggling. You get IDE-grade editing where your project already lives.

In active development — this is the studio’s biggest and most important release yet, and the tool Dead Shrimp Studio wants to be known for. Follow along on the blog or star the repo when it goes public.
GCS is the foundation for what comes next: cogodot, real-time collaboration built to synergize with it.
